Drone technology has made impressive strides in the last few years and the construction sector has taken notice. When I heard a new 'Drone-Port' was to be built in Coventry I was very excited. Concept cargo drones such as the 'Sabrewing' pictured below will become reality and take to the skies at some stage during this decade. Electric powered, autonomous and able to take off and land vertically before transitioning to convential flight once airborne will give them endurance, range and efficiency. Over the last five years I have seen loads of articles saying drone deliveries are just round the corner so, hearing that a Drone-Port was to be built I pictured a large site on the edge of an industrial a..

In all honesty, I have never been interested in flying model aircraft, drones or photography or videography for that matter; so why do I now find myself as the proud owner of a Mavic 2 Pro (commonly referred to as a “flying toaster” by one of my more professional drone colleagues) & why I find myself part way through the completion of my Permissions for Commercial Operations (PfCO) certification?(Incidentally, my colleague flies a drone that weighs about 26Kg – so about the same as a microwave!)The size does not matter - after all, all drones are a bloomin nuisance, just toys and invaders ..

In the past DJI have claimed that their Professional products are modular, but customers have been disappointed when they find out their older drone parts are now useless, for example batteries, propellers, cameras, gimbals and chargers of the Inspire 1 were not at all compatible with the Inspire 2, and all new cameras released for the Inspire 2  were not backwards compatible with the Inspire 1. Customers were also disgruntled when their consumer drone parts cannot be used to reduce the cost of upgrading to a professional level drone - none of the Phantom 4 accessories, camera, remote co..
